Mixed Breed Races invites dogs of all stripes to run
Visit Poochapalooza this year to watch energetic little wiener dogs race for trophies, prizes and glory during the 6th annual Running of the Wieners! But why should dachshunds have all the fun? We've added races for any breed of dogs to compete, based on weight categories.
The Running of the Wieners dachshund races start at 11 a.m. in the Racing Arena, with dachshunds competing in races that will highlight their speed and cunning. Your dachshunds not a well-trained speedster? No problem. We've split categories this year into Beginners and Intermediate/Advanced. The number of qualifier races will depend on how many wiener dogs are registered, so make sure your dog is in the running!
Mixed-breed races take to the Racing Arena starting at 2 p.m. Races are divided into three categories, from smallest to largest (based on weight):
* Teacup Tango (10 lbs. and under)
* Standard Sprinters (11-25 lbs.)
* Mid-size Marathoners (26 or more lbs.)

Day of event registration is $10 per dog to race, or enter online for $7 on this website before July 1. Semi-final winners will compete in the grand finale races occuring at the end of the races to determine the winners, and depending on number of entrants. Be sure to read Race Rules before game day, written for dachshund races but applicable to mixed-breed races as well.
Pre-Registration doesn’t give you an earlier spot in the races. Dogs are checked in as they arrive. Registering ahead of time simply saves you a few dollars and gives event coordinators an idea of how many dogs will be coming.
Whether you think your own dachshund has what it take to be a champion or you just want to see the sight of dozens of cute pups dashing for glory, the 4th annual Poochapalooza Running of the Wieners and new mixed-breed races are a playful event not to be missed!
Be sure to yell for your favorite dachshund or mixed-breed when the race official sounds the “go” whistle! This is a timed competition on a grass track stretching 25 yards from start to finish. But don’t be surprised if more than a few dogs take time out along the way to socialize with fans and onlookers.
Huge thanks to this year's lane sponsors: Jimmy John's, Julz Animal Houz, Sun Factory, Team Costa Real Estate, Jet City Pizza, Clear Image Portrait Studio, Beef Jerky Outlet and Cascade Veterinary Center!
